After the decomposed body of the two-year-old boy, Sujith Wilson, who was stuck in a borewell in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli district since 25 October, was recovered on early Tuesday, the social media shed tears on the mournful accident.

Taking to Twitter, ace India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said: “#RIPSujith really sad sad morning. Let’s hope such accidents don’t happen again.”

“Deeply saddened to hear the loss of Sujith. May God give his family all the strength. #RIPSujith,” bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar tweeted.

Meanwhile, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 runners-up Chennai Super Kings also expressed condolences saying: “May we never let such tragedies occur again. EVER. #SorrySujith #RIPSujith.”

Notably, Sujith’s body was taken out early Tuesday after over 80 hours of rescue efforts. Following that, the body was taken straight to the cemetery for a funeral after doctors at the Manaparai Government Hospital conducted an autopsy.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) had been working relentlessly since Saturday to save the boy who fell into the abandoned borewell at around 5.30 pm on Friday and got stuck at 30 feet. Later that night, he went further down the tube and got stuck at about 70 feet.

In addition to the problem, the rescue operation had got delayed because of the rocky terrain. However, the teams continued their efforts to save the toddler. But in the wee hours of Tuesday, the toddler’s body was discovered to be in a decomposed state as foul smell had started emanating from the borewell.

The rescue team tried its level best, but failed to save the two-year-old.
