Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is all set to be re-elected as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as his candidature remains unopposed.
Notably, the five-member panel led by Ganguly did not meet any opposition whatsoever until the deadline for filing in nominations for the elections. The nominations were closed on Saturday.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has organized its 85th annual general meeting on 28 September. Earlier, the Supreme Court diktat on Friday had cleared the decks for Ganguly to contest the elections for the President’s post.

Initially, the Super Court-appointed Committee of Administrations (CoA) had stated that even the period which has been served by the individual in the working committee will be considered when taking a final call on the eligibility of candidates. This has raised a lot of doubts concerning Ganguly’s re-election.
However, Ganguly later stated that there was in fact a year between his working committee tenure and then taking over as the President. However, that may not have been enough as the new BCCI constitution had called for a minimum of three years of ‘cooling-off’ period.
On Friday, however, Susanta Ranjan Upadhaya issued a clarification on the lines of the Supreme Court directive that only office bearers will be considered while deciding the eligibility for contesting the elections. Ganguly, meanwhile, had already been a part of the working committee for three years before taking over as joint secretary in 2014.
The 47-year-old then became the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in 2015 following the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya.
