If reports from news agencies like IANS are to be believed, the possibility of two former Indian cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Brijesh Patel becoming office-bearers of the new-look Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) post the Committee of Administrators (CoA) era is fairly strong.
The affiliated units of the cricket governing body in India are set to meet in Mumbai on Sunday. However, prior to that, the decision-makers met in New Delhi on Saturday to decide who will be the new office bearers of the board.
The three names that have emerged as favourites, in the meeting which went late into the night, also include the name of Union Home minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah.

However, it is yet to be confirmed who will become the President and who will have to don the hat of Secretary. The likes of Arun Dhumal, Jayesh George and Prabhtej Patel are some of the other names who could be given other responsibilities within the Board after CoA hands over the power to the new office bearers on 23 October.
The only factor working against former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is that his tenure in whatever capacity he is elected will not last more than nine months since after nine months he would have completed six years at a stretch as an administrator of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
According to the provisions of the BCCI constitution, a ‘cooling-off’ period of three years sets in once six years are completed. The same is the case with Jay Shah as he has worked as an office-bearer of the Gujarat Cricket Association.
It remains to be seen what exactly is finalised in Sunday’s meeting and who takes charge of the BCCI on 23 October.
