Registering a win to open their campaign, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Gujarat Titans by three wickets in the fourth match of IPL 2026 at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
However, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer was later fined after his side maintained a slow over-rate during the contest. As it was PBKS’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations, Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh.

PBKS chased down a target of 163 in 19.1 overs, with debutant Cooper Connolly producing a match-winning unbeaten 72 off 44 balls to seal the victory with five balls to spare. While the Shubman Gill-led side kept applying pressure throughout, Connolly’s composure under pressure proved decisive.
“Punjab Kings (PBKS) Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 4 at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the IPL said in an official statement.
Chasing 163, PBKS had a steady start despite losing an early wicket, as Prabhsimran Singh struck a fluent 37 and built a strong partnership with Connolly during the powerplay. However, the innings saw a sudden twist when Prasidh Krishna triggered a middle-order collapse, putting Punjab under pressure.

Despite the setbacks, Connolly remained calm and anchored the chase brilliantly, ensuring PBKS stayed in control. He eventually finished the game in style, guiding his side over the line in the final over.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted 162/6 after a strong opening stand from Shubman Gill (39) and Jos Buttler. However, PBKS bowlers kept striking at regular intervals to prevent a bigger total, with Vijaykumar Vyshak (3/34) and Yuzvendra Chahal playing key roles.
Gujarat’s middle order failed to capitalise, and the total proved below par on a good batting surface.
PBKS will next face five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
