In another score for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, the ace footballer has dethroned popular singer Selena Gomez as the ‘Most Followed’ celebrity on Instagram. The 33-year-old soccer player ended a two-year reign of the ‘Wolves’ singer on 29 October.

According to reports, the Portuguese forward has now earned 144,338,650 followers on the social network whereas Selena is stagnant at 144,312,745 followers.

The 26-year-old American singer lost her position amid her self-imposed exile from social media. Undoubtedly, this was the most favoured times for Ronaldo since he has been on the second rank for quite a long time now.

On 23 September, Selena Gomez announced on Instagram that she was “taking a social media break”. “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” Gomez wrote.

During the same month, Gomez also talked about the followers’ count on an Instagram live video and asserted that “none of this matters”.

“I don’t care how many followers I have. I don’t. I don’t care. I could have none tomorrow. Makes no difference. It’s just a number and it’s insane so many people are obsessed with a number. It’s like, chill out,” she had said.

Meanwhile, the latest photo on the Instagram profile of Ronaldo shows the footballer waving at his fans. “Can you guess where am I?” the caption read.

Ronaldo, who is seldom away from the headlines, created the most buzz when he moved to Juventus leaving Real Madrid, last summer, ending his nine years’ journey with the club.
