Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has backed Stuart Broad to perform well in the second Test against the West Indies, saying that the England bowler has “plenty to show”, after he was dropped from the opening match of the three-Test series.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Tendulkar wrote, “There is a spring in Stuart Broad’s walk and I have a feeling that he is out on the field with plenty to show.”

Broad was picked in the team for the second Test alongside Sam Curran after James Anderson and Jofra Archer were dropped.

The 34-year-old had vented his anger for not being able to play the second Test against West Indies at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton.

“I found out about 6:00 pm the night before the game,” said Broad as quoted by PTI via AFP. “Stokesy told me we were just going with extra pace in these conditions.”

“I wanted clarification about my future going forward and I was given pretty positive feedback.

“I’m not a particularly emotional person but I’ve found the last couple of days quite tough. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement…. I’m frustrated, angry, gutted.

“It’s difficult to understand. I’ve probably bowled the best I’ve ever bowled the last couple of years — I felt it was my shirt,” England’s highest Test wicket-taker added.

Meanwhile, England on Friday gained an upper hand over the West Indies and declared after posting a mammoth score of 469/9 in the first innings of the second Test at the Old Trafford Stadium on Day 2.

Ben Stokes with 176 runs off 356 deliveries and Dom Sibley with 120 of 372 were the highest scorers for the hosts as the duo also shared an epic 260-run stand between them.
