Two-time defending champions of the Premier League Manchester City find themselves as many as eight points behind UEFA Champions League winner Liverpool after they faced a shocking defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Adama Traore scored a brace for the Wolves team in the final 10 minutes as Wolves managed to win a match in the top flight at Manchester City for the first time after 1979.

The first of Traore’s two goals within the span of 10 minutes came as the visiting team was quick to pounce on a rare error made by Manchester City player Joao Cancelo. He added another goal against his name during the injury time.

With their defeat against the Wolves, Cityzens have now dropped five points in their opening four home games of the season. To put things into perspective, in the entire last year Cityzens had just lost three in the entire last year and seven in the year before that.

Manchester City’s David Silva came the closest to scoring for Manchester City when he hit the bar with his second-half free-kick. Raheem Sterling also had a goal-scoring opportunity which he missed.

This was also their first game after 45 league games in which Manchester City failed. The last time this happened at their home ground was against Huddersfield in May 2018. They had already won their first title of the Guardiola era till then.
