Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Spanish midfielder David Silva will be the club’s new captain, filling the vacant spot left by Vincent Kompany
Silva fills Vincent Kompany’s shoes after the Belgian joined Anderlecht.
“David Silva will be our captain,” Guardiola said on Friday during a press conference ahead of its Premier League opener against West Ham on Saturday.

“Normally, the captain is the life of the locker room – they know each other; they have fun a lot when they are together. There will be no problem. He will be a good captain,” he added.
Silva, who joined City in 2010 on a transfer from Valencia, will be having his last season at City as he has revealed his intention to leave the club at the end of the season.
“No, this is the last one,” Silva replied when asked earlier in the summer if he could stay beyond next season. “10 years for me is enough. It’s the perfect time for me.
“Initially, City were talking about two years, but I decided to sign another one, so I finished at 10 years,” he said, adding, “It completes the cycle. It’s a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years – that’s it.”
Since his joining, Silva became a cornerstone in the City’s midfield. His silverware includes four Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and four League Cups, as well as a FIFA World Cup and two Euros with Spain.
