Premier League 2019-20: Arsenal grind out for win against Newcastle United

Arsenal have managed only 13 away wins across the last couple of seasons, and in such a scenario, an away against Newcastle will be more than welcome in the Arsenal camp.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-led an Arsenal team, which was playing without several of its experienced players, to a win in the first weekend of Premier League 2019-20 against Newcastle United.

Aubameyang scored a goal in the second half of the match and made sure that tenure of Steve Bruce began with a defeat at his home turf. However, both the teams were far from their best and produced a game which saw plenty of errors made by both the teams.

Notably, new players like Dani Ceballos, David Luiz, and Nicolas Pepe were not fit enough to start for Arsenal and this meant an opportunity for their academy graduates Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock, to participate in the league.

Meanwhile, Joelinton made his first appearance on home ground for Newcastle United and he ensured that he does not provide a lot of chances to the opponent in the first half of the match.

The match deciding goal came only in the second half when Aubameyang scored in the 58th minute of the match. Aubameyang, who was the joint winner of the golden book last year first took a touch to settle in and then dinked it past the Arsenal defence for a goal.

Newcastle’s response was tepid, never seriously stretching Arsenal despite the odd bright moment from substitute Allan Saint-Maximin who made his debut from the bench.

Eventually, it was Arsenal who were mature enough to clinch a tough win and get three points on the table.
