Pratika, England team fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Indian women’s team batter Pratika Rawal was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England and has been fined 10 percent match fees.

The Indian opener was penalised for two separate incidents that took place within a short period of time. In the 18th over, she made avoidable physical contact with bowler Lauren Filer while taking a single, and after being dismissed in the next over, she made similar avoidable contact with bowler Sophie Ecclestone on her way back to the dressing room.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Rawal’s disciplinary record, for which it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

Meanwhile, the England team were fined five percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate as they were found one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Rawal and England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted their respective sanctions imposed by match referee Sarah Bartlett, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

The series opener was a closely fought contest, with India holding their nerve in the chase to seal victory.

England posted a competitive 258/6, powered by Sophia Dunkley’s 83 and a composed half-century from Alice Davidson-Richards. India found themselves in trouble at 124/4, but a composed knock from Deepti Sharma (62 not out), who was well supported by Jemimah Rodrigues (48), Richa Ghosh (10), and Amanjot Kaur (20 not out), guided the visitors to a hard-earned win.
