As the IPL 2026 league stage enters its decisive phase, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans are set for a crucial clash in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, with both teams looking to strengthen their playoff chances in an increasingly tight points table battle.

Currently placed second and third respectively, SRH and GT are locked on 14 points alongside Royal Challengers Bengaluru, making net run rate an important factor heading into the final stretch of the tournament.

GT appear slightly better placed after recovering strongly from a slow start to the season. Under skipper Shubman Gill, the Titans have built momentum through a string of important wins, including an emphatic 77-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in their previous outing.

One of GT’s biggest strengths this season has been the balance within the squad. Their batting unit has revolved around Gill and Sai Sudharsan, both of whom have provided consistency at the top while handling the powerplay intelligently.

The middle order, featuring experienced players like Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar, has added stability and finishing power. GT have largely preferred a measured approach with the bat, building partnerships before accelerating in the latter half of the innings, a strategy that has worked well both while chasing and setting totals.

Their bowling attack has also found rhythm after a shaky beginning to the campaign. The pace duo of Mohammed Sirajand Kagiso Rabada has consistently provided breakthroughs, while Rashid Khan continues to control the middle overs with his wicket-taking ability.

The Titans, however, remain vulnerable when their top order fails early. In some of their defeats earlier this season, the side looked overly dependent on the finishers to recover from collapses.

SRH, meanwhile, have once again showcased why they are regarded as one of the most destructive batting sides in the IPL. Their top-order combination of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen has delivered explosive starts consistently throughout the season.

SRH have crossed the 200-run mark eight times this season, including a massive 249 against Mumbai Indians, underlining the firepower in their batting line-up.

The return of captain Pat Cummins after injury has also added aggression and balance to SRH’s bowling attack. During his absence, Kishan led the side, but Cummins’ return has brought greater control and intensity to the unit.

Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga has emerged as one of SRH’s biggest positives this season. With 16 wickets so far, he has consistently delivered crucial breakthroughs and controlled the flow of runs during key phases of matches.

However, SRH’s ultra-aggressive batting approach has occasionally backfired. Early wickets have exposed vulnerabilities in the middle order, leading to collapses in a few matches. Their fielding, too, has remained slightly inconsistent at times.

With both teams pushing hard for a playoff berth and very little separating the top sides on the table, Tuesday’s contest could have a major impact on the IPL 2026 playoff race.
