ICC launches probe into Canada over match-fixing claims in T20 World Cup 2026
ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit has launched a probe into Cricket Canada following match-fixing allegations linked to a T20 World Cup 2026 clash against New Zealand.
In the 15th Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan defeated the USA by 32 runs at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Tuesday, with opener Sahibzada Farhan’s blistering knock of 73 off 41 balls setting up the victory.
Pakistan posted a competitive 190/9 in their 20 overs, with Farhan anchoring the innings and earning the Player of the Match award. The innings was built on a solid opening partnership between Saim Ayub and Farhan, who added 54 runs for the first wicket. Ayub chipped in with 19 off 17 balls, but it was Farhan who dominated the powerplay, striking six fours and five sixes to give Pakistan early momentum.

After Ayub’s dismissal, Pakistan briefly lost momentum before Farhan and former captain Babar Azam steadied the innings with a crucial 81-run partnership for the third wicket. Babar played a composed knock of 46 off 32 balls, rotating the strike efficiently and punishing loose deliveries to keep the scoring rate healthy and set up a strong finish.
The middle and lower order struggled as wickets fell at regular intervals, with skipper Salman Agha and Mohammad Nawaz failing to make an impact, while Usman Khan and Abrar Ahmed were run out. However, Shadab Khan provided late impetus with a rapid 31 off 12 balls, while Shaheen Afridi added a brisk unbeaten 9 off 4 to push Pakistan close to the 190 mark.
In reply, the USA fought hard, led by Shubham Ranjane’s valiant 51 off 30 balls, but they were restricted to 158/8 in 20 overs. Debutant Usman Tariq starred with the ball for Pakistan, returning figures of 3/27, while Abrar Ahmed applied pressure in the middle overs to derail the chase.
For the USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk had earlier impressed with the ball, claiming 4/25, with Saurabh Netravalkar, Mohammad Mohsin and Harmeet Singh picking up a wicket each.
The win marked Pakistan’s second victory in Group A and helped them avenge their historic Super Over loss to the USA in the 2024 tournament. With this result, the head-to-head T20I record between the two sides is now tied at 1-1, while the USA faces an uphill battle after two consecutive defeats in the tournament.

USA skipper Monank Patel said:
“Looks like a good batting track and there’s a consistent breeze here, so once we know the target, it will be easy for us to chase it down. We have two changes. Ali Khan is still injured, so Adil comes in place of him. Sai misses out and Jahangir comes in. I think we played a lot of good cricket. There were a lot of positives from that game. One thing we discussed is that when we want to win against good teams, it’s important that we do well with both bat and ball. So the focus will be doing well in both departments in this game. We had a great game. First time playing against Pakistan, and the way we played was great to see. Everyone gave their effort, and we want to take confidence and motivation from that game and do well today.”
Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha said:
“We’ve got one change. Usman Tariq is playing. Salman Mirza is unfortunately missing out. We wanted to give Usman a game. I think he’s a match-winner and a trump card for us, so we want to use him. I think we all know there are things we need to improve. We’ve sat down and talked about that, and I’m hoping we’ll be much better today. We’ve been playing really good cricket over the last few months, and we just want to continue playing good cricket every single day.”
