Earlier, in a relief to Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) offered him a Grade ‘B’ annual retainership contract to Shami on Thursday.

Shami’s contract was withheld following the match-fixing allegation made by his wife Hasin Jahan around a fortnight ago. Jahan had also accused the Indian pacer of domestic violence and adultery.

Following the match-fixing allegation, the Supreme Court of India appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) had requested Neeraj Kumar, former Police Commissioner of Delhi and Head of BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit, to investigate the allegations against Shami, pertaining to the provisions of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code.

According to BCCI press release, Neeraj Kumar submitted his confidential report to the CoA and based on the conclusions in the report, the CoA was of the view that no further actions/ proceedings under the BCCI anti-corruption code were warranted in the matter.

Thereafter, the BCCI went ahead with its decision to offer a Grade ‘B’ annual retainership contract to Shami, who will be earning Rs 3 Cr per annum according to the new BCCI pay structure. The BCCI had introduced a new grade system altogether – Grade A+ : Rs 7 Cr, Grade A: Rs 5 Cr, Grade B: Rs 3 Cr, Grade C: Rs 1 Cr.
