Tottenham Hotspur are struggling with a raft of injuries— some serious, some minor— manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed as the Argentine revealed that Victor Wanyama has been sent home from their pre-season tour of the United States.

“Erik (Lamela) and Moussa (Sissoko) are not going to play tomorrow,” Pochettino told the media on Monday, ahead of Spurs’ clash with AC Milan in the International Champions Cup.

“We hope it is not a big issue (for both players) and that is why they are here with us, but for tomorrow, it makes no sense to take any risks with them,” he added, to allay fears that the duo will be not be fit soon with the Premier League season little over a week away.

Spurs are already short of several senior players, with most of the English contingent still on holiday following their exploits at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“Victor Wanyama has gone back to London for a scan (on his knee). That is the situation.”

They did, however, manage to hold Barcelona to a 2-2 draw before going down on penalties last week.

Spurs have not made a single transfer this summer, sparking fears among the Lilywhites fanbase that once again, a title charge will fizzle out by the turn of the year.

Liverpool have strengthened significantly, while Manchester City and Chelsea have made made some key signings and the trio are currently the bookmakers’ top picks for the Premier League title.

The August 9 deadline looms and Pochettino has admitted the possibility of not signing a single player is a reality.

After their tie against Milan, Spurs take on Girona in their final pre-season fixture on Saturday (2330 IST).

They open their 2018/19 Premier League campaign with a home clash against Newcastle United on August 11.
