The presence of Mateo—David Silva’s son—proved to be a positive portent as Manchester City swamped Huddersfield Town 6-1, but Benjamin Mendy’s post-game tweet, not Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick, was truly the icing on the cake.
Silva posed with his son before kick off in a heartwarming moment, to a standing ovation from both sets of the crowd.
Born earlier in the year after severe difficulty due to his premature arrival, Silva’s son has recovered to be in perfect health.

Aguero netted a treble, with Gabriel Jesus and Silva the other scorers.
An own goal from Terriers defender Terence Kongolo rounded off the scoring on a memorable evening for the defending champions.
Silva’s free-kick was a thing of beauty, but clearly Mendy would take home the plaudits for this tweet:
