Leicester City on Saturday thrashed Southampton 9-0 at St Mary’s Stadium to equal Manchester United’s record of registering the biggest win in the English Premier League.

Riding on hat-tricks from both Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez, Leicester continue their imperious run in the ongoing competition. The other three goals were scored by Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison.

Chilwell drew the first blood for the guests in the 10th minute of the game, which was followed by another goal in the 17th minute from Tielemans. Within two minutes of the goal, one of the hat-trick heroes Perez netted his first one and City’s third goal. In the 39th minute, Perez scored his second goal of the match.

Just when the game was moving towards the end of the first half Vardy opened his account in the 45th minute.

By the end of the first half, the Foxes were 5-0 up in the game, but their appetite kept them in the hunt. As a result, they put four additional goals in the second half and equaled Manchester United’s 9-0 drubbing of Ipswich Town in 1995.

Leicester’s victory was also the biggest ever win by any side in an English top-flight league match in the 131-year history of the Football League.

With the win, Leicester have climbed to the second spot in the points table, leapfrogging Manchester City and moving five points behind leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Southampton have now dropeed into the relegation zone on goal difference with Newcastle.
