India’s Test Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane and opener KL Rahul could be recalled to India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming home series against Australia as Indian selectors are now looking at testing out a few more players leading up to the World Cup.

There would be a few changes in the upcoming home series against Australia to test India’s bench strength ahead of the World Cup.

As per a report published in The Hindu, the selectors are now looking for the backup option for the World Cup by resting senior players and rotating pacers, which means Rahane and Rahul could be recalled and Rohit Sharma can be rested for a few games.

Indian wicket-keepers, Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant, could be given more chance. However, it is not yet confirmed if Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who was rested from the recently concluded three-match T20I series against New Zealand, will play the entire series or not.

India’s pace trio — Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammed Shami — could also be given a break to keep them fresh for the World Cup.

India’s spinner-twins, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, could be in for a break at some point during the upcoming series.

Earlier, Team India head coach Ravi Shastri had already made it clear that players will be monitored even during the IPL.

“We’ve been in touch with the BCCI and CoA in this regard. We have certain plans in place and we’ll be looking to follow them. Usually, the two months of IPL are seen as relatively free months for me and I can just sit down and enjoy the cricket, watch out for new, young talents that keep emerging. But this IPL will be about monitoring the players, keeping the World Cup in mind,” Shastri told Cricbuzz in an interview.
