Jharkhand’s athletes delivered a stellar performance at the 5th Indian Open Under-23 Athletics Championship, held from October 15 to 18 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Telangana.
On the final day, Supreeti Kachhap clinched gold in the women’s 5000 meters with a timing of 17:09.59, while Vishal Bahadur secured gold in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 16.12 meters. These wins contributed to Jharkhand’s impressive medal tally of two gold and two silver medals at the championship.

The state’s athletes were congratulated by Sports Minister Sudivy Kumar Sonu, Secretary Manoj Kumar, Sports Director Shekhar Jamuar, and Jharkhand Athletics Association officials, including Planning Committee Chairman Dr. Madhukant Pathak, JAA President C.D. Singh, Secretary S.K. Pandey, along with coaches and senior members Vinod Singh, Ashu Bhatia, Arbind Kumar, Binod Kumar, Yogesh Yadav, and Prabhat Ranjan Tiwari.
S.K. Pandey, Secretary of the Jharkhand Athletics Association, expressed pride in the athletes’ achievements, noting that their performance reflects the growing strength of athletics in the state.
