Javier Tebas has been re-elected as the president of Spanish football league La Liga for the next four years.

Notably, 57-year-old Tebas, who was in charge of La Liga since replacing Jose Luis Astiazaran in 2013, had stepped down last December but later, he opted to compete for the post. His new presidency was confirmed on Monday, with no candidate having run against him.

“Following the presentation of a single candidacy for the presidency of the La Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional, and this being valid, Javier Tebas is definitively named president of LaLiga for a period of four years, without the need to hold an Extraordinary General Assembly,” said La Liga in an official statement.

“A new political term is starting, where it is possible there may be laws and directives proposed which affect our institution and our interests,” Tebas was quoted as saying by Goal.

“The person who has to do it should do so with the backing of the clubs at least for four years,” he added.
