Former Indian cricketer and left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan recently expressed his concerns over Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s fitness. He also said how vital is Rohit’s form for team India in the upcoming World Cup.
On the show ‘Follow the Blues’ on Star Sports, the legendary pacer said, “Coming back from injury is never easy, and the biggest challenge would be for Rohit Sharma to come back into form. Which is important for a leader.”
“Look, Rohit Sharma as a white ball cricketer for India has played tremendously well over the years and he has to continue this form and make his legacy even better. Fitness will be a challenge along with his return to form, but I have full confidence that he will be able to overcome these challenges fully.”
Notably World Cup 2023 is all set to take place in the month of October later this year. It is very important for India that all the players are fit and especially when it comes to the fitness of the Indian skipper who suffered a thumb injury in the ODI match against Bangladesh.
Rohit has scored 745 runs in a total of 18 innings, averaging 44, with a strike rate of 96 since the 2019 ODI World Cup. He is making a comeback in the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, the team management will be left with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan to open the innings with Rohit.
