Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into their afternoon clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday with growing confidence, having shaped themselves into one of the most complete units in IPL 2026. Nearly a month into the season, RCB, placed second on the points table with a solitary loss from five outings, have found both balance and clarity in their approach, and they will be keen to reinforce that identity at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

While much of the spotlight continues to follow Virat Kohli, the batting talisman has not only delivered but also benefited from a stronger support system around him. This season, RCB’s batting has moved beyond reliance on one individual, with multiple players stepping up to share responsibility.

Captain Rajat Patidar has led from the front with an aggressive approach, while Devdutt Padikkal, Phil Salt and Tim David have all made significant contributions with impactful knocks. Together, they have ensured that RCB’s batting unit fires in unison rather than in isolation.

Patidar, in particular, has stood out with his six-hitting prowess, topping the charts with 21 maximums from five matches, three ahead of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. His form has added a new dimension to RCB’s batting, allowing Kohli to anchor innings with greater freedom, knowing there are enough attacking options around him.

From a team perspective, this collective output has been central to RCB’s success so far. The batting group has embraced a shared responsibility model, ensuring that the team consistently posts or chases imposing totals.

In contrast, Delhi Capitals, placed fifth in the points table, with two victories from four matches, are still searching for that same cohesion. Despite having experienced names like KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller and Nitish Rana, the unit has struggled to find consistency. Even their position in the top half of the table appears slightly flattering given their performances.

Youngster Sameer Rizvi has shown some resilience with two half-centuries, but overall, the batting has lacked stability, reflected in back-to-back defeats. Their wins have come against teams that are themselves struggling, further underlining the need for improvement.

From a bowling standpoint too, Delhi have lacked rhythm. Captain Axar Patel has endured a lean run, while star wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has not been at his usual best. The pace attack, led by Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan, has shown only occasional promise.

For RCB, this presents an opportunity to press their advantage. Their bowling unit, spearheaded by Josh Hazlewood, has complemented the batting well, especially at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium where they have executed plans with precision.

Vice-captain Jitesh Sharma summed up the team’s approach. “I think this year we are very smart about the wicket, we are adjusting to the wicket, we are tactically working, and I think that’s why we are winning all the games at home. I think that shows that we are working smartly and efficiently,” Jitesh said after the previous match against Lucknow Super Giants in Bengaluru.

With both batting and bowling units clicking together, RCB will also look to keep their dominant head-to-head record against DC, with the home side registering 20 wins in their 33 face-offs.
