A 59-member Indian contingent left for Urumqi, Xinjiang, China to take part in the 3rd “Belt and Road” International Youth Boxing Gala – U17/U19/U23 International Training Camp & Tournament.
The squad includes 20 boys and 20 girls, supported by 12 coaches, six support staff and one referee and judge. Organised by the Chinese Boxing Federation along with the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Government, the event begins with a training camp from August 17–25, followed by competition from August 26–29 in Urumqi and Yili.

This year, only U-17 boys and girls are representing India. The team was selected based on performances at the 6th U-17 Junior Boys & Girls National Boxing Championships 2025, with gold and silver medallists in Asian Youth Games weight categories and gold medallists in non-Asian Games categories making the cut.
The U17 boys and girls will compete across 13 weight categories — 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg.
The exposure in Urumqi is expected to give India’s young boxers valuable experience against international opponents. The trip follows a string of strong results for India’s junior boxers this year, including 43 medals at the Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships, where they finished second overall.
Earlier this month, India bagged 27 medals at the Asian U19 & U22 Championships in Bangkok. The U19 team clinched 14 medals — three gold, seven silver, and four bronze — finishing second overall, while the U22 group ended with 13 medals, including four silvers, to place fourth.
