After registering a sensational 10-over victory in the 3rd T20I to take an unassailable 3-0 lead, India returned to action in the 4th T20I against New Zealand at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, with the series already in the bag and an opportunity to experiment ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 next month.
However, New Zealand ended the match with a statement performance, signing off with a commanding 50-run win after outplaying India in all three departments. Chasing 216, India were bowled out for 165 in 18.4 overs, with Shivam Dube providing the only real fight by smashing 65 off just 23 balls and becoming the third Indian to score the third-fastest fifty in a T20 international match, though his counterattack wasn’t enough to keep the chase alive.

New Zealand posted a strong total of 215/7 in their 20 overs in the 4th T20I against India. Openers Tim Seifert and Devon Conway gave the visitors a flying start, stitching together a 100-run partnership in just 50 balls, before India pulled things back with quick wickets.
Seifert top-scored with a blistering 62 off 36 balls before being dismissed by Arshdeep Singh, caught by Rinku Singh, while Conway chipped in with 44.
The last men’s T20I at ACA-VDCA was the 1st T20I between India and Australia on November 23, 2023, just four days after Australia defeated India in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final.
India’s chase end at 165 all out in 18.4 overs
Matt Henry opened the bowling for New Zealand as Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson walked out to begin India’s chase. In a shocking start, Abhishek was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings, the second time in the series he has fallen for a first-ball duck, with Devon Conway taking the catch.
Suryakumar Yadav came in at No. 3 and struck a boundary later in the opening over, but his stay was short-lived as he was dismissed by Jacob Duffy in the second over, leaving India reeling at 9/2. Rinku Singh joined Samson at the crease as India looked to rebuild.
Rinku tried to counterattack and found his rhythm when Zakary Foulkes came on in the fourth over, smashing two consecutive sixes. However, New Zealand continued to tighten the screws with disciplined bowling. In the seventh over, Mitchell Santner cleaned up Samson, conceding just four runs in a controlled over. Hardik Pandya walked in next but couldn’t make an impact.
The pressure continued as Ish Sodhi bowled a tight eighth over, giving away only three runs. Santner then struck again in the ninth, dismissing Hardik, who was caught by Zakary Foulkes. Shivam Dube arrived and immediately announced himself with a maximum, but India suffered another blow soon after as Rinku Singh was trapped LBW by Foulkes, further denting the chase.
With wickets falling rapidly, Harshit Rana came in, but Dube launched a stunning counterattack. In the 12th over, he completely turned the momentum, hammering 29 runs with three sixes and two fours. Dube continued the assault with two more sixes in the 13th over and kept the chase alive by striking another six and four in the 15th before being run out by Matt Henry, a turning point that ended India’s hopes. He smashed the third-fastest fifty by an Indian in the T20I with his sensational knock.
In the 17th over, Harshit Rana was dismissed by Ish Sodhi, caught by Rachin Ravindra, and India collapsed quickly thereafter. Arshdeep Singh was dismissed in the same over, caught by Mitchell Santner. Jasprit Bumrah briefly entertained with a boundary but was dismissed in the 18th over, caught off Sodhi and bowled by Santner.
Jacob Duffy bowled in the 19th over, and Kuldeep Yadav was the last man to fall caught by Tim Seifert, as India were bowled out for 165, falling short by 50 runs.
New Zealand post 215/7
New Zealand got off to a flying start with Devon Conway and Tim Seifert opening the innings. Arshdeep Singh began the spell, but Seifert immediately took charge, smashing three consecutive fours to set the tone.
Harshit Rana bowled the second over, but Seifert continued the onslaught, hitting a six off the second ball and finishing the over with a boundary. Arshdeep responded well in the third, conceding just four runs, but Seifert regained control in the fourth over against Harshit Rana, hammering a six and two fours to collect 15 runs from the over.
Jasprit Bumrah came into the attack in the fifth, but Seifert welcomed him with another six. Conway then joined the charge in the sixth over, striking two fours and a six, as New Zealand surged through the powerplay.
The breakthrough finally came when Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Conway just after he had struck a six. Conway was caught by Rinku Singh, with the opening stand bringing up 100 runs for New Zealand.
Rachin Ravindra walked in next but couldn’t settle, falling in the 10th over to a brilliant delivery from Bumrah, dismissed on the first ball of the over. Glenn Phillips replaced him and began positively with a boundary, continuing to find regular fours and sixes to keep the momentum with New Zealand.
Seifert’s innings ended when he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh, caught by Rinku Singh, leaving New Zealand at 126. Mark Chapman came in next, but New Zealand suffered another blow in the 14th over when Phillips was removed by Kuldeep Yadav, again caught by Rinku Singh.
Chapman was later dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi, caught by Harshit Rana, as India clawed their way back with quick wickets. Daryl Mitchell then provided late impetus, striking a six and a four early in his stay.
Bumrah struck again in the 17th over, while Mitchell Santner was run out thanks to sharp work from Hardik Pandya. In the 18th over, Zakary Foulkes was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh, once again caught by Rinku Singh.
Despite the wickets, Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry ensured New Zealand finished strongly, taking them to 215/7 in 20 overs.
IND vs NZ 4th T20I: Toss Update
India has won the toss and has decided to field first against New Zealand in the 4th T20I.
Captains take after the toss
Suryakumar Yadav (India Captain)
“We’re choosing to bowl first because the wicket looks good and there was plenty of dew last night, with humidity still high. The ball should come on nicely, so chasing feels like the better option for us this evening. Our aim is to continue the positive habits we built last year and improve on what we did well in the last game. This is a beautiful venue with a fantastic crowd, and the boys are energised to put on a strong performance. We’ve made just one change—Arshdeep Singh returns as Ishan Kishan picked up a small niggle in the previous match. Axar still needs time, but with five solid bowling options, the batters know they must shoulder responsibility.”
Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain)
“The pitch looks excellent again, and with the dew already settling, it may get tougher for bowlers later on. It’s special to be playing my 250th T20I, and this series has shown how quickly the scoring rates are climbing. India’s quality has been evident across the first three matches, so we know we must be sharper with the ball. We’ve seen how quickly they punish any mistakes, and on a wicket like this, discipline becomes even more important. Given the surface, we’ll need to put up a strong total to stay in the contest. The focus is on adapting quickly and setting the game up with a competitive score.”
