Accordingly, India were charged under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences.

Players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl within the allotted time, if deemed an offence.

As stand-in skipper, Rahul pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction; therefore, no formal hearing was required.

India lost the second ODI against South Africa despite exceptional efforts from Virat Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105), who helped the team post a daunting total of 358/5.

In reply, Aiden Markram anchored the Proteas’ innings with a superb 110 off 98 balls as South Africa chased down the target with four wickets to spare.
