A confident Indian team thrashed the mighty Australian by 48 runs in their last group clash to became the table-toppers in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The Indian team has been unbeaten so far in the ongoing world tournament and they will aim to continue their winning momentum when they will take on the second-placed team in group A in the semifinals.

Riding on Smriti Mandhana’s career-best 83 and Harmanpreet Kaur’s masterclass 43 runs, India posted 167 on the board in their respective 20 overs. In reply, the Southern Stars could only manage 119/9 as their batsmen crumbled in front of the Indian spinners.

After the match, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur heaped praises on her girls at the post-match presentation ceremony. “Credit to the girls for the way we played today. We worked really hard, today the fielding coach must be happy with the way we fielded, proud of the girls. We always enjoy when batting together. She (Mandhana) played really well and that is what we are expecting from her.”

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur’s counterpart Meg Lanning expressed her disappointment and said, “We sort of felt that pace off the ball was effective on this wicket and that was our plan (on not utilising the fast bowlers). Kaur and Mandhana batted extremely well. We have a lot to work on from here.”
