Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Youth and Sports Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur said that the Congress reneged on its promise to women in Himachal Pradesh.
“Anurag Thakur cannot become the president at his own sweet will, “she held, referring him as a ‘Self Styled President’.
Lifetime member and patron of Hockey India and a senior Congress leader, Vidya Stokes on Sunday said the election to the Himachal Pradesh Hockey Association held recently in Una, where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Anurag Thakur was elected President, was illegal.
Former Hockey India President, Stokes, who was HP Hockey Association President prior to this election, took Thakur to task and said she would take up the issue with Hockey India.

“I had been heading the state Hockey Association for last many years and am still the President. The elections could not have been held without issuing me a notice, which has not been done,” she said. Stokes alleged that Thakur held the election in a haste going against the rules. “He has also been trying to gain political mileage through sports,” she said.
