India batter Shreyas Iyer on Thursday expressed his heartfelt gratitude to fans and well-wishers for their constant support as he continues to recover from a serious injury sustained during the recently concluded ODI series against Australia.
The 30-year-old suffered a rib cage injury while taking a spectacular catch in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground and was immediately rushed to a local hospital for evaluation.

Subsequent scans revealed that the injury was more severe than initially feared, with doctors confirming a laceration to the spleen, which required Iyer to be admitted to the ICU for observation.
Sharing a recovery update on social media, Iyer thanked everyone who reached out to him during this difficult phase.
“I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day,” he wrote. “I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received — it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been providing regular updates on Iyer’s condition. In their first statement on October 27, the board said, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well.”
A day later, on October 28, the BCCI released a second update, confirming that Iyer had suffered internal bleeding due to the impact but was showing encouraging signs of recovery.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation,” according to the statement.
“A repeat scan done on Tuesday, October 28, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress,” it added.
Iyer’s recovery is being closely overseen by both Indian and Australian medical experts, with the cricketer expected to remain in Sydney until he is declared fit to travel back home.
