World number one Simona Halep on Sunday claimed her first grand slam title by thrashing Sloane Stephens (3-6 6-4 6-1) of America in the French Open final.

Though Halep lost the first set and a break down at the Roland Garros, she bounced back into the game by winning the remaining two sets.

Halep had lost her three previous major finals and on Sunday she made a gutsy comeback against American 10th seed Sloane Stephens.
