Inter Milan thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the semifinals of the ongoing UEFA Europa League to book a final date with Sevilla. A brace each from Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, added with Danilo D’Ambrosio’s goal, inspired the Italian giants to the massive victory on Monday.

Antonio Conte’s men outplayed their Ukrainian counterparts in all departments as Shakhtar failed to create any genuine moment of threat whatsoever in the course of 90 minutes.

However, Shakhtar had tried to start the match on a positive note with an attacking display. But the determined Inter defense were equally up to the task before their forwards began their offensive at the other end.

It took merely 20 minutes for the Nerazzurri to open the scoring with their first genuine chance. It was a cross from Nico Barella that found Martinez inside the box who then nodded home the opener

Shakhtar struggled to create opportunities as they were unable to bypass Inter’s defenders. Goalscoring chances remained at premium as only Marcos Antonio unleashed a shot on target just before the break.

After the start, Inter started from where they had left as they continued with a low-block approach. But once they forced a turnover they overran Shakhtar’s defense.

However, Shakhtar almost restored parity out of thin air, but Junior Moraes’ header missed the target at the hour mark.

Inter took Shakhtar’s only display of threat as an alarm and went on to extend their lead. D’Ambrosio made it 2-0 from Marcelo Brozovic’s in the 64th minute.

The second goal of the night seemed to be the momentum that Inter lacked a bit in the first half as they ran all over the Shakhtar defense in the remaining minutes of the match.

Martinez completed his double in the 74th minute when he smashed home a 18-metre long-ranger to take the match beyond Shakhtar’s reach.

Shakhtar were unable to put up resistance whereas Inter were not done with scoring, as Martinez set up for Lukaku, who tapped home for 4-0 four minutes later.

Things went from bad to worse for Shakhtar in the closing period after Lukaku wrapped up his brace to round off the win.
