Former India pacer Ashoke Dinda and ex-spinner Utpal Chatterjee have been entrusted with leading roles in the Cricket Association of Bengal’s Vision 2028 programme, a long-term project designed to identify and nurture the state’s next generation of cricketers, starting next month.
“The Cricket Association of Bengal on Wednesday announced two Bengal legends, Mr Utpal Chatterjee and Mr Ashoke Dinda, in the Vision 2028 programme starting July 2026. Mr Dinda has been named as the Head of Vision 2028 and Fast Bowling Coach. Mr Chatterjee has been named as the Spin bowling coach for Vision 2028,” the CAB said in a statement.

The Vision 2028 programme is aimed at identifying and developing cricketing talent across Bengal through a structured and long-term pathway. As part of the initiative, CAB has brought together coaches from various age-group and senior teams to create a unified development system.
Chatterjee represented India in three ODIs in 1995 and later served as Bengal’s head coach during the 2008-09 season.
Dinda, who played 13 ODIs and nine T20Is for India between 2009 and 2013, will oversee the programme while also handling the fast-bowling unit. He currently serves as the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles in the West Bengal government.
According to CAB, head coaches and assistant coaches from all major state teams, including the Under-16, Under-19, Under-23, and the senior men’s and women’s Bengal squads, will be involved in the Vision 2028 programme.
The appointments come shortly after CAB President Sourav Ganguly, Vice-President Nitish Ranjan Dutta and Treasurer Sanjay Das met district sports association representatives at Eden Gardens to discuss plans for the 2026-27 domestic season following the conclusion of the men’s and women’s Bengal T20 leagues.
