After a nightmarish 2017/18 season at Chelsea, veteran centre-back David Luiz is ready to turn the corner with the Blues under new boss Maurizio Sarri and the Brazilian has stated that he’s loving the Italian tactician’s philosophy.

Sarri hasn’t won a single major trophy in his career, yet was the man who got the Antonio Conte’s job in the summer. Conte had a turbulent but fruitful two seasons, in which the Blues won the Premier League and the FA Cup.

The fact that Sarri was trophy less at 59 led many pundits and fans to call him off as a failure before he even started, but after the Blues’ unbeaten start to pre-season, they’ve have been forced to eat the words.

Not because of the results, but the way that the Blues, without a fair chunk of their senior stars, have been dominating opponents with their ‘Sarrismo’ style of play.

And it looks like Luiz is just one of many Chelsea players to love their new boss’ approach to the beautiful game. The Brazilian had an injury-riddled campaign last time around and to further complicate matters, he had a falling out with Conte which led to him playing just 17 times in all competitions.

“I love this philosophy, to play high with a lot of possession of the ball and in a technical way. So he is trying to help us every single day to learn his philosophy to help Chelsea, the 31-year-old defender was quoted as saying by the club website.

Chelsea edged Perth Glory 1-0 last week, before drawing 1-1 with inter Milan on the weekend. They then overcame the Italian outfit on penalties, with Spanish winger Pedro netting in both games.

“No, same style, play from the back, build from the back and try to help the guys,” Luiz responded if the former Napoli manager had asked him to change his style of play.

The Blues take on London rivals Arsenal in midweek at the Aviva Stadium, before jetting back to England as they prepare for Sunday’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal.

“He has many players who can play with four at the back, three at the back or five at the back but he is the one who will decide,” the affable Brazilian added, hinting that Sarri may yet spring a surprise with his formation once the season gets underway.

After two years with Conte’s 3-4-3, Chelsea are expected to play with a 4-3-3, a formation that Sarri utilised to great effect with Napoli for the past three seasons.
