The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has opened disciplinary proceedings against UEFA’s all-time highest goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo after he was given a red card for tugging on the hair of Valencia defender Jeison Murillo on Thursday.

Can Juventus appeal against the referee’s decision? Will Cristiano Ronaldo miss Manchester United clash? Here is everything you need to know:

How many games can Ronaldo miss?

After the red card against Valencia, Cristiano Ronaldo automatically gets one-game Champions League ban. It means Ronaldo will miss Juventus’ home game against Young Boys on October 2.

Can Ronaldo’s ban get extend?

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo’s ban can be extended. As per 50.01 of the regulations: “In case of serious offences, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (UCED) is entitled to augment this punishment.”

UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body met on Thursday to discuss all disciplinary matters arising from Matchday 1 of the ongoing Champions League. It also took into account referee Felix Brych’s report.

If CR7 behaviour is declared to be overly aggressive then UCED could ban Cristiano for an additional one or two games. If Ronaldo gets two or three-match suspension, he could miss one or both of the games against his former club Manchester United.

Can Italian champions Juventus appeal against the red card?

No, Juventus can’t appeal against the red card and Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the Young Boys game in all certainty. As per UEFA rules, there is no right of appeal against and “an automatic one-match suspension following a dismissal”.

However, if Ronaldo’s suspension gets extended then Juventus could appeal against that portion of the suspension.
