After India’s series deciding win in the second of the three match T20I series against the West Indies, Indian captain Virat Kohli has only words of praise for young off-spinner Washington Sundar. Sundar performed well in both the matches for India.

Notably, it was Sundar who opened the bowling for India in both the T20Is and ensured that he gave a good start to the Indian team in both the encounters. In India’s first match, he gave India the much needed early breakthrough by picking up a wicket in the first over of the match.

In the second match, although he did not take a wicket in the first over, he conceded only one run to Sunil Narine, who can be very dangerous at the top of the order. Narine was seemingly clueless about which way the ball was going to turn and where it will pitch.

The 19-year-old followed it up with a brilliant second over and picked up the wicket of Sunil Narine whom he had set up beautifully after bowling six dot deliveries. Sundar gave just 12 runs in his 3 overs as India won by 22 runs (DLS method).

“Starting with the new ball, the way Sundar has bowled against guys who come hard at the ball, he’s done a tremendous job. The composure he’s shown has been outstanding,” said Kohli after the second T20I on Sunday.

“He’s become fitter, leaner and is very handy with the bat as well. He is definitely going to be a factor for us,” he added.

In his brief international career, Sundar has played one ODI in which he has a wicket against his name. He has also picked up 10 wickets in nine T20Is.
