Pep Guardiola was a delighted man after seeing his Manchester City side swamp Cardiff City 5-0 and the Catalan singled out Riyad Mahrez and Sergio Aguero for praise after their massive Premier League victory on Saturday.

Mahrez came off the bench to score two well-taken goals, effectively sealing the three points for Guardiola’s men.

“He played well. He’s a guy who’s going to help us a lot. He is a special talent and in front of the goal he has incredible quality, Guardiola enthused on the topic of the Algerian’s performance after the resounding win in Wales.

Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Guendogan were the other scorers for the Sky Blues.

“We are so satisfied with him We won 5-0 in Cardiff, conceded few chances, so, yeah, very pleased.”

City were reeling after their midweek loss in the UEFA Champions League to Lyon, but Guardiola insisted that he never lost faith in his players.

“We knew, it’s part of the process. The season is long, there are a lot of games to play and it’s important after one bad result that the team came back to where it normally is.

“To score goals you have to be patient. We were patient, we didn’t suffer in the long balls and free-kicks and that’s important.”

Guardiola signed off by lauding Aguero, who signed a contract extension on Friday, for his display against Cardiff, “He’s an authentic legend for what he has done in this club and hopefully we can help him stay in a good position to continue this.”

City climb to second place in the Premier League table, as they trail leaders Liverpool by two points.

Chelsea can overtake the Citizens if they win their game in hand over West Ham United on Sunday, however.
