After becoming the first fast bowler to reach the landmark of 200 IPL wickets, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar reflected on his journey, saying such milestones are the result of years of consistent effort, discipline, and adaptation.

The milestone came during RCB’s commanding 41-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where Bhuvneshwar delivered a match-winning spell of 3/41. With this feat, he also became only the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history, further strengthening his legacy in the tournament.

Across his IPL career, Bhuvneshwar now has 202 wickets from 192 innings at an economy rate of 7.7. He also remains the only bowler in IPL history to win consecutive Purple Caps in 2016 and 2017, highlighting his sustained dominance in a format known for favouring batters.

Interestingly, the landmark came at a venue where his IPL journey began. Bhuvneshwar first entered the league with RCB in 2009, making the achievement a full-circle moment for the experienced pacer.

Speaking after the match, Bhuvneshwar said the recognition was special but rooted in long-term consistency.

“It feels good to get rewarded for the work you’ve been putting in over the years. The IPL has been a big part of my career, and reaching 200 wickets is definitely special. What makes it even more meaningful is that my IPL journey actually started with RCB, so coming back here and achieving this feels like a full-circle moment,” he said.

He also spoke about the evolving challenges for bowlers in T20 cricket, stressing the importance of adaptation.

“Achieving milestones like this is always the result of what you do day in and day out over the years. The game is getting tougher for bowlers, but it’s not just about skill anymore, it’s about adapting to conditions, using variations, and adjusting field placements. It’s a batter’s game, but bowlers are also finding ways to stay effective,” Bhuvneshwar added.

Reflecting on the match against CSK, he admitted the conditions were tricky despite appearances.

“The surface looked good while batting, but when we bowled, the ball held up a bit. I tried to keep things simple, hit the deck harder, and stick to plans. It wasn’t easy with cramps and the heavy ground, but execution mattered most,” he said.

He further praised RCB’s bowling unit for sticking to their plans and executing strategies effectively.

“As a bowling unit, the best thing is that we are sticking to what we discuss in meetings, especially against specific opponents. It’s not the easiest ground to defend totals, but our preparation and execution are working well,” he concluded.

With this performance, Bhuvneshwar once again underlined his value as one of the most consistent and experienced pacers in IPL history.
