La Liga giants Barcelona have signed yet another player before the end of the transfer window and this time this is the versatile defender Junior Firpo. They have completed the signing from Junior Firpo’s club Real Betis for a reported transfer fee of €18 million.

The transfer deal includes add on worth €12 million and a release clause worth €200 million. It is to be noted that Firpo has signed the contract for five years.

The defender played as many as 29 matches for Betis in the last season and also scored three goals. One of his two goals of the season came when his team registered a 4-3 win over Barcelona in November.

The 22-year-old player was impressive in Spain’s successful campaign in Under-21 European Championship. He will be in contention for the left-back place in the team along with Jordi Alba.

Firpo is all set to join the Barcelona squad for their pre-season preparations in the United States.

As part of this campaign, there will be matches against Napoli.

Earlier as per a report published in Don Balon, a Spanish weekly sports magazine, it was stated that Lionel Messi does not want Barcelona to sign the 22-year-old left-back player. It is to be noted that back in 2012, Firpo had posted a tweet bashing Messi which read, “I hope that shit rat Messi picks up an injury and dies and stops scoring goals, ahhaha (sic).”

It remains to be seen their chemistry on the field once Firpo joins the squad.
