Australia vs South Africa 2nd Test: Australia looks steady on Day 1

The Day 1 of the second test of Australia vs South Africa ended with Australia looking a bit dominant. The hosts ended day one at a steady position as they were 45 with just 1 wicket down at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

David Warner (32*) and Marnus Labuschagne (5*) are standing at the crease as they now look forward to building a strong partnership and take a lead.
The hosts are still trailing by 144 runs as they now eye for getting a big lead on day 2.

Earlier, the Proteas were dismissed on 189 runs as Cameron Green destroyed South Africa’s batters with career best figures 5/47. While South Africa were 67-5, Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne showed great resilience. They put up a 112 runs partnership and led South Africa to a respectable total.


But as soon as they were dismissed, Africa’s inning collapsed. Kyle Verreynne played a spectacular innings of 52 runs while Macro Jansen showed a great temperament as he smashed 59 runs to lead the Proteas forward on the Day 1. Australia is already leading by 1-0 in the three match test series against South Africa.

Previously, in the first test, South Africa faced an embarrassing defeat as they were dismissed for just 99 runs in their second inning. The match ended in just 2 days as Australia won the match by 6 wickets.
