Asia Cup final controversy: Naqvi says India can collect trophy from his office, denies apologising to BCCI

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who allegedly ran away with Indian’s team Asia Cup trophy following Pakistan’s defeat im the final on Sunday, has dismissed reports claiming he apologised to the BCCI.

In a social media post on X, Naqvi, who is also the Chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said, “Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologised to the BCCI nor will I ever do so.”

He also criticised India for allegedly dragging politics in cricket. “This fabricated nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, aimed only at misleading their own people. Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics into cricket, damaging the very spirit of the game.”

Naqvi further stated that he is ready to handover the Asia Cup trophy to India but the country will need to collect it from him.

“As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me,” he added.

After defeating Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2025 final, Indian team refused ro acceot the Asia Cup trophy and medals from Naqvi, who happens to be a minister in the Pakistani government.

While Indian team said they were to collect the trophy from other ACC officials, Naqvi was admant on presenting it himself but India firmly rejected the idea.

After this, Naqvi took the trophy and the medals to his hotel room. The Indian cricket board vehemently criticsed his behaviour, saying it will lodge a formal comolaint against him.
