India’s rising chess prodigy A. S. Sharvaanica continued her remarkable rise on the global stage after clinching the FIDE World Rapid Under-12 Girls Championship title in Vrnjačka Banja with two rounds to spare.
The 11-year-old woman candidate master produced a dominant display in the 11-round tournament, finishing with 10.5 points after registering 10 wins and one draw to seal her second world rapid crown.

Sharvaanica confirmed the title with a victory over Slovenia’s Ema Jaksa in the ninth round, eventually finishing three points ahead of Kazakhstan’s Sholpanbek Zhansaya, who secured second place with 7.5 points.
Stepping up an age category after previously winning the World Under-10 title, the young Indian entered the tournament as one of the top seeds with a classical rating of 2041 and lived up to expectations with a commanding campaign.
Her only dropped point came in a draw against Ukraine’s Daria Kravchuk, while she also registered crucial victories over Alisa Yunker and Mariya Shakhova during her unbeaten run.
The triumph further strengthens Sharvaanica’s growing reputation as one of India’s brightest young chess talents. She had earlier won gold in the Under-10 category and also claimed a silver medal in the blitz event at the 2024 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships in Albania.
The youngster’s achievement was widely celebrated on social media, with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh congratulating her in a post on X.
“Proud Moment for Andhra Pradesh! Young chess prodigy Sharvaanica wins the Under-12 Rapid Chess World Cup in Serbia. Congratulations from Hon’ble Sports Minister, SAAP Chairman & VC & MD SAAP.”
Sharvaanica, who hails from Tamil Nadu, received a grand welcome upon her return to India, with celebrations from local chess communities, schools and sports supporters recognising her latest global achievement.
