Ahmedabad has a new reason to celebrate. Dr. Sandip Sonara, a well-known gynaecological laparoscopic surgeon from the city, has achieved something no Indian doctor has done before. He has become India’s first surgeon to receive the prestigious SRC accreditation as a Master Surgeon in Multidisciplinary Endometriosis Care.

This rare honour has been given by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a respected medical body based in the United States. SRC is known worldwide for recognising surgeons who meet the highest standards of skill, safety, and patient care.

What makes this achievement special

The SRC accreditation is not easy to earn. It is awarded only to surgeons who show excellence in handling complex medical cases with results. With this recognition, Sonara now joins a small and elite group of global specialists trusted to treat severe and complicated cases of endometriosis.

Dr. Sonara is especially known for his careful and fertility-preserving surgeries. He uses laparoscopic techniques supported by detailed ultrasound and MRI mapping to treat disease while protecting woman’s future reproductive health.

A journey rooted in Ahmedabad

Born and educated in Ahmedabad, Sonara’s journey has seen dedication and hard work. He completed his MS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from BJ Medical College in 2013. During his student days, he topped the All-India Pre-PG examination twice.

He was also actively involved in medical reforms in Gujarat. He contributed to introducing a common PG entrance process and played a role in shaping a 2012 law aimed at protecting doctors from violence.

Training, service, and record-breaking work

In 2015, Dr. Sonara co-founded India’s first hands-on laparoscopic training ecosystem, helping train hundreds of surgeons from India and other countries. His commitment to healthcare also reached rural areas. Through CSR support, he helped build advanced laparoscopic services and a tier-3 ICU at a charitable hospital in Bavla.

With more than 4,000 surgeries performed in a short span, he also holds a world record for a rare mesonephric cyst endometrioma case.

Dr. Sonara is an active researcher, an international faculty member, and currently practices at Parikh Hospital, Ahmedabad. He is also licensed to work in the UAE under Dubai Health Authority recognition.

In recent years, he has led nationwide awareness campaigns on early diagnosis and complete treatment of endometriosis.
