Marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the six-day Tribal Participation Festival began on Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan (IGP) in Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the event.

The festival, from November 13 to 18, brings together around 600 tribal artistes from 22 states, whose performances, exhibitions, crafts and food stalls are transforming the venue into a vibrant national cultural showcase.

He noted that 2025 marks three major 150-year milestones: the birth anniversaries of Birsa Munda, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the 150th year of Vande Mataram, making it a year of national pride. He also recalled Birsa Munda’s supreme sacrifice at the age of 25.

State Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh welcomed the artistes from across India and said that for the next six days, Lucknow will immerse itself in tribal colours, culture and music.

He added that 15 November will be celebrated as Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas, and that Uttar Pradesh has consistently worked for the welfare of tribal communities since 2017, including support for Van Tangiya, Vanvasi and nomadic groups.
