West Bengal will unite country against injustice, hatred: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called on people of West Bengal to show the way for India to fight against the injustice and hatred. Addressing a gathering during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Siliguri, the Congress leader expressed hope that people of West Bengal will work towards uniting the country.

“There is injustice happening in different parts of the country. I want to put forward those points…Bengal is a special place not a common place. When the country was fighting against British rule, the ideological work was done by the people of Bengal,” Gandhi said.

The Congress leader also raised his voice against the Centre’s ‘Agniveer’ scheme for the recruitments in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

“Earlier, the youth of the country used to wake up in the morning and work hard, become fit and join the army. There (in the Army), our youth were given a guarantee that we will protect you and your family. But now Modi government has brought ‘Agniveer’, in which youth will get jobs only for 4 years. Agniveer will not get the facilities and financial security that army personnel get,” said Gandhi.

He also claimed that the government announced 1.5 lakh jobs in the Army but after three years, “those youth are neither being recruited in the Army nor in Agniveer.”

“This is injustice,” the Congress leader remarked during his Yatra which resumed today after a two-day break.

The Congress has reportedly invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take part in the Yatra after the latter announced publicly that she was not informed about the Gandhi scion’s march entering West Bengal.
