Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday appreciated the pivotal role of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, calling the institution the “guardian of the public purse”.

In his address at the ‘Audit Diwas’ celebrations, the vice-president said by upholding fairness and truth in auditing, the CAG stands as a pillar of accountability, transparency, and integrity, which is the moral wealth of Bharat. “Supreme audit institutions across the world share one common purpose: to protect public money and promote good governance. Among them, the CAG of India stands proudly, upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, and integrity in public life,” he noted.

Highlighting country’s advancements in AI, Big Data, blockchain, and machine learning, Radhakrishanan noted that the CAG, through initiatives like the One Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) One System, AI-based audit frameworks, and several other measures, has embedded technology, predictive analytics, and generative AI into the very DNA of public financial management.

He praised partnerships with premier institutions like IIT Madras to build capacity in data sciences, cybersecurity, and deep learning.

The vice-president expressed satisfaction with the fact that a customized Large Language Model (LLM) is being developed to feed over 20,000 inspection reports annually, bolstering data-driven auditing. He noted that the auditor general’s global reputation has grown through its role as an External Auditor for international organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and several others.

He further highlighted that the CAG is currently chairing the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), which he said, is a testimony to the country’s journey, emerging as global leaders.

The vice-president further said that as the nation progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, the CAG will remain a key partner in ensuring fiscal discipline and transparency for effective governance.

He urged officers concerned to continuously upgrade their skills and auditing capabilities to enhance transparency in public spending and ensure that people’s money is used for public welfare.
