Following Congress-led INDIA bloc’s humiliating defeat in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, there is an unease in the Opposition camp with questions being asked about the alliance’ effectiveness to counter the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

On Sunday, NCP-SCP leader and party chief Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule was asked a pointed question in this regard – will her party rethink its alliance with the INDIA bloc?

Her response was measured. Sule noted that the decision on having an alliance or not varies from state to state. But she did call for an introspection.

“This varies from state to state. But any loss has to be introspected. We must introspect on what went wrong,” she told reporters in Pune.

However, the NCP-SCP leader asserted that althogh the NDA swept Bihar in the just concluded Assembly elections, the vote share of the BJP has not increased.

“If you look at Bihar’s case… Lalu’s vote has not decreased, BJP’s vote has not increased, and Congress’s vote is exactly where it was… It is the alliances that have worked… Lalu’s party recieved the most votes…,” she argued.

The BJP, which contested 101 seats, emerged victorious in 89 with a vote share of 20.08 per cent. The RJD secured 23 per cent vote share from 143 seats it contested. The vote share of the Congress party in Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 was 8.71 per cent.
