Three dead, four missing as car plunges into Ganga
Three people died and four others went missing after an Innova SUV they were travelling in plunged into River Ganga on Tuesday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said that the state’s economy has increased 26 times and the per capita income 17 times in the past 25 years. Dhami stated this while tracing the state’s 25-year-old developmental trajectory at the BJP office.
Speaking about his government’s programme for the silver jubilee celebrations that began on Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the size of Uttarakhand’s economy has increased 26 times and the per capita income has grown 17 times in the 25 years since the state’s formation. The state’s budget outlay, he added, has for the first time exceeded ₹1 lakh crore in 2025, compared to ₹4,000 crore in its first budget. He also noted that the state’s per capita income has risen more than 17 times.

Highlighting progress on social parameters, Dhami stated that 58 lakh Ayushman cards have been distributed, while the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has sharply declined to 91 in 2023. Over 1.65 lakh women have become self-reliant under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, and the old-age pension has been increased to ₹1,500 for each elderly couple.

Speaking about the ongoing developmental projects, the Chief Minister said that the reconstruction of Kedarnath is in its final phase, and works worth ₹300 crore are underway as part of the master plan for the Badrinath shrine. He added that projects such as the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, aimed at revitalising religious and cultural tourism, are also in progress.
Apart from these, projects like the Delhi–Dehradun Elevated Road and the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Line will give a new direction to the state’s development, Dhami said. The Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is implementing initiatives such as the Vibrant Village Programme, Smart Industrial Townships, and the Chief Minister’s Reverse Migration Scheme to curb mass migration and promote the development of border areas.
Talking about the silver jubilee celebrations of the state, Dhami said, “A special session of the state Assembly has been convened on November 3 and 4. President Droupadi Murmu will address the opening day of the session. The two-day special session will include deliberations on the state’s future development prospects and its achievements over the past 25 years. The Foundation Day ceremony on November 9 will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The focus areas of the silver jubilee celebrations will include culture, tourism, youth, power, non-resident Uttarakhand natives, and statehood agitators.”
The Chief Minister said that his government has employed over 26,000 youths in the past four years. “We also signed record MoUs worth ₹3.56 lakh crore during the Global Investors Summit in 2023. Of these, projects worth over ₹1 lakh crore have already been implemented, while work on the remaining MoUs is in process.
“The year 2050 will mark the Golden Jubilee of Uttarakhand. The state government will move forward by creating a new roadmap for the next 25 years,” Dhami said.
