Uttarakhand is set to witness negative economic growth in the current financial year even as its SGDP is likely to take a 15 per cent jump in the same period.

Contrary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contention that the decade would of Uttarakhand, the financial survey report for 2023-24 presented by the Pushkar Singh Dhami Government in the House on Wednesday indicated that the state’s economy is witnessing de-acceleration in the current financial year.

According to the survey report, the state’s growth for 2023-24 will be around 7.58 per cent, 05 per cent less than that of 7.63 per cent economic growth registered by the state in 2022-23.

Interestingly, as per the report, the state’s growth will be despite national growth likely to go up from 7.72 per cent to 7.73 per cent.

However, the survey predicts a more than 15 per cent rise in the SGDP of the Himalayan state in 2023-24 over 2022-23. The report says Uttarakhand’s SGDP in 2022-23 was almost ₹3 lakh crore. This is likely to increase to around 3.5 lakh crore in the current financial year, reads the report.

The survey further stressed that the Uttarakhand SGDP, with base year 2011-12, will rise by 58 per cent from 1.98 lakh crore to 2.13 crore during the same period.

The state’s economic growth has taken a big leap in per capita income as well, says the financial survey report. The per capita income of Uttarakhand grew by 12.6 per cent as compared to the national increment of 7.9 per cent between 2022-23 and 2023-24.

The report claimed that the per capita income of the people in Uttarakhand was nearly ₹2.31lakh in 2022-23 and it’s likely to surpass ₹2.6 lakh in 2023-24 even as national figure for per capita income is yet to touch ₹2 lakh mark.
