Friends of a Kashmiri student who was studying in a private college in Dehradun and joined a terrorist outfit are on the radar of the Uttarakhand Police.
A photograph of Shoaib Ahmed Lone appeared on social media recently, apparently solving the mystery of his sudden disappearance from Uttarakhand.
The photograph shows the youth holding a gun. A caption accompanying the photo informs that he has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Uttarakhand Police’s Additional Director General (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said, “We are gathering information. Our intelligence unit is working on it.”
Shoaib Ahmed was studying in B.Sc final year (IT) at the Alpine Institute of Management and Technology in Dehradun.
The local police came to know about the youth joining a terrorist group after army intelligence unit from J-K became active. They approached the private college to obtain documents and other information from the college.
The Uttarakhand Police is gathering information about the three year activities of Shoaib in the city. The Kashmiri youth used to stay at a private hostel in the Premnagar area. The intelligence agency is collecting details about the people he used to move and interact.
According to sources the boy who used share room with Shoaib was from Uttar Pradesh and after completing his course has moved to his home town.
The issue came to light through a Facebook post which announces “New one joined. Welcome brother may u live long.” The 20 September post mentions Shoaib Ahmad Lone joining Hizbul Mujahideen.
The youth was last seen at the Alpine Institute of Management and Technology in Dehradun last month. Claiming that he is going out to Kashmir to attend a wedding, the youth went missing on 19 September. The social media photo discloses that he joined the terrorist outfit on 20 September. After the incident, the local police have started verification drive at the Premnagar area.
