The Uttarakhand Police has started taking action against individuals who were found guilty of spreading false information about Kashimiri students locking themselves in hostel rooms in Dehradun fearing reprisals from a mob.

An FIR was lodged against former JNU Students Union (JNUSU) leader Shehla Rashid for allegedly circulating fake information that a mob had gathered at the gate of a girl’s hostel on Monday.

Reacting on the action, Rashid in a tweets said, “So, Uttarakhand cops have filed an FIR against me, but they have yet to take any action against Vikas Verma Bajrang Dal convenor who is speaking to national newspapers, owning up to the mob attacks, ordering Kashmiris to leave Dehradun. Can’t say who rules Uttarakhand anymore!”

As the news spread, the Uttarakhand police jumped into action.

The police issued video, photographs and other information to present the actual situation.

The Uttarakhand Police is providing security at colleges where Kashmiri students are studying.

In a latest incident, 23 students were arrested for staging protest against Kashmiri students at the Uttarakhand College of Science and technology in Dehradun on Monday.
