Amid buzz over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi nomination for Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has taken a dig at the Congress party, saying no one in Uttar Pradesh is listening to the Nehru-Gandhi family today.
“The big state like UP had given votes to four generations of Nehru-Gandhi family, today no one is listening to them in UP. It’s like the state has bid farewell to Nehru-Gandhi family, so it’s natural to be frustrated and disappointed…” Union Minister Anurag Thakur said on Thursday.
Terming the Congress party’s alliance with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh a “Thugbandhan”, Thakur said that the grand old party and its allies are habitual of criticising Sanatan Dharma and Hindu religious places.

“Overall the alliance is a ‘Thugbandhan’… Congress and its allies are habitual of criticising religious places… Sometimes insulting Lord Rama, sometimes talking about crushing Sanatana Dharma and sometimes talking about dividing North and South… What kind of thinking does Congress and its allies have?..” he added.
There is a strong buzz over Rahul Gandhi contesting the elections from Amethi even as Congress has not made any official announcement in this regard.
The Amethi District Congress Committee has started gearing up after they received an indication from the party high command that Rahul Gandhi could be the candidate from Amethi again.
Amethi Congress District President Pradeep Singhal met Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi on Monday. It is being claimed that after meeting, Priyanka asked him to prepare for the polls, saying Amethi is our family.
Party sources in Amethi on Wednesday said that during the meeting, the District President informed Priyanka that there is a situation of doubt in Amethi and people are worried whether Rahul Gandhi will contest from the family turf or not .
