The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) Varanasi unit has arrested the main accused and his accomplice involved in a Rs 7-crore jewellery heist that took place in Chandan Nagar, Hooghly, Kolkata on August 3.

The breakthrough was made on Tuesday with the arrest of Adarsh Singh Behda from Kerakat in Jaunpur, and Suraj Seth from Cholapur in Varanasi, at the Gambhirpur Toll Plaza in Azamgarh.

According to the STF, after the daring robbery, the West Bengal Police shared CCTV footage, photographs, and other critical information with the UP STF and sought their assistance in locating the suspects. Acting on these leads, the Varanasi STF unit tracked the accused to the Azamgarh region.

Upon their arrest, STF officials recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery, and a Bullet motorcycle from the duo. Authorities revealed that Adarsh Singh Behda is a seasoned criminal with over 18 cases already registered against him. His uncle, Deepak Singh Behda, was also a notorious criminal who was killed in a police encounter in Varanasi nearly two decades ago.

The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile heist case, and further investigations are underway to trace the remaining stolen valuables and other possible accomplices.
